Many migratory species used Bidadari as a transit point on their way to their main wintering grounds in Indonesia and beyond. The housing estate is situated at the site of the former Bidadari Cemetery, which served Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Sinhalese communities. This marks the completion of all 12 BTO projects in Bidadari. Located within a new public housing estate in Singapore, Bidadari Park has become an accessible, heritage-rich destination centered on residents’ needs for the growing community. This island is famous for its stunning white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters, creating a serene and picturesque environment. Prior to its use as a cemetery, it was formerly Istana Bidadari which was used by Che Puan Besar Zubaidah, who was the second wife of Sultan Abu Bakar as her residence. The word Bidadari means "fairy" in Malay , which was in turn derived from the Sanskrit word vidhya dhari. The land bridge was planted with lots of colourful flowering shrubs and trees to cater to butterflies and birds, which can travel between the two green spaces, namely Bidadari Hillock and Bidadari Park. Bidadari is a crucial stopover in eastern Singapore for countless migratory songbirds such as Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa dauurica). The name "Bidadari" comes from the Malay word for "angel". The Bidadari cemeteries and their surroundings: The first formal report on the Bidadari region to the historic sites unit of the National Heritage Board for the proposed Bidadari Memorial Garden.
